My name is Kathleen and I live and work in the green north of Antwerpen, together with my husband, our daughter and a lovely dog. Our place is only 150 meters away from a very nice forested area, and to move there was one of the best decisions of our lives!
Next to our home is my work studio Forest Roots where I run a multipassionate small self-employed business with
- a service for natural dreadlocks: Forest Roots Fairy Locks
- a studio for handmade accessoiries: Forest Roots Crafts
- a herbal tisane production atelier + workshops: Botanical Alchemy
- a natural concept webshop: In the woods
All these concepts focus on a natural, conscious and reconnected way of living. I offer organic, eco conscious, handmade and fair traded items to facilitate this lifestyle. I also offer personal coaching services and workshops. My activities have in common that they are intended to help people find a meaningful life, reconnected with themselves and in connection with the natural world around them.
For most of the time I work at our home project, but every now and then I also work on some very nice free spirited festivals, conscious events or artistic markets. You can read about these events and markets on my socials and in the newsletter.

Private studio for the creation of natural hair dreadlocks, real dreadlocks extensions, maintenance and restorations.

Tiny crafts studio where I create hand felted wool dreadlocks sets, wool silk scarfs, hairwraps, jewelry and more.
I'm further specialising in natural plant dyes.

At In The Woods you will find organic, eco conscious and fair traded products for a natural lifestyle. You'll find organic clothing in wool, cotton and linen, wooden toys, low-waste reusable products, organic personal care products, organic products for womens health, natural supplements, non toxic incense, organic essential oils, crystals, bohemian and dark art jewelry, high quality books, art cards and much more.
And ofcourse also my own production of herbal tisanes from Botanical Alchemy.

🌿 Previous
I was educated in Special youthcare and Orthopedagogy followed by additional therapist trainings.
For about nine years I've worked as a counselor and social worker with people with all kinds of
psychologic difficulties, from teaching to psychiatric care and everything in between.
On the side I've worked as an independent photographer and I also did many years of artistic photography modelling. In my free time I used to create glass art and I did some violin school.
Both were no longer combinable when I became a Mother to a lovely daughter.
At that time I also left the social work sector and instead opened my own natural health shop with all organic food, health supplements and so on. Later on I've transformed this shop into only webshop: In the woods.
Around that time I've also started the Forest Roots Dreadlocks service , what became my fulltime profession.
And then I've finally found the time and courage to follow my deep rooted dreams by creating my own herbalism studio: Botanical Alchemy. By this I feel I can land into a dedicated passionate carrier for the coming 20 years.

🌿 Current
I'm doing a three-year study to become a licensed Herbalist and deepen my knowledge in herbal medicines.
I'm also being educated in the composition and production of herbal tisanes.
Furhter on I'm adding more experience with natural plant dye in the crafts atelier.
Together with my husband I'm building a small scale permaculture food forest, called Project 9.
The expansion of the herb garden there is the main focus for now.
